The overloading of the existing biological leachate treatment system and solids removal required a technological solution to treat leachate waste water, with special emphasis on handling peak hydraulic loads.
The existing de-nitrification unit was converted to a membrane bio reactor. The Zee Weed modules were integrated directly into the sludge basin.
Through this upgrade, improvement of the biological treatment and solids removal prior to the ozone treatment stage was realized.
Effluent from the facility was sent to a downstream municipal waste water treatment plant. The concrete sludge basin was fitted with Zee Weed ultra filtration membranes and a fine bubble aeration system. The process control system for the filtration system was housed in a containerized unit.
