The plant produces raw materials for the production of pharmaceutical products. The wide spectrum of products manufactured as well as the staged production schedule generates wastewater with highly varying compositions. Previously, Zwolle‘s wastewater was aerated in a mixing and equalization pond, then discharged to a local wastewater treatment plant
Zwolle decided to invest in its own wastewater treatment plant to be able to discharge directly. This concept required a wastewater treatment technology of the highest standard.
Zwelle looked at the cost economics and operational efficiency of O121 membrane bioreactor to treat the wastewater produced in the Netherland plant. The bioreactor consists of a three-train denitrification/ nitrification system, with each train containing 3000 m³ of working volume. The membrane filtration consists of four trains, each containing nine modules of Membranes in the OAMBR. Each module can be controlled separately. Depending on operational or cleaning requirements, individual trains may be taken online or offline
